Benign Skin Lesions

Benign skin lesions, including seborrheic keratoses (seb K), skin tags, milia, and sebaceous hyperplasia, are non-cancerous growths. Although these lesions are not harmful, patients request treatment for aesthetic reasons, or because they cause discomfort. There are various options available to remove or reduce these skin lesions.

Treatment Options

Laser

The Tetra Pro laser (a CO2 laser) is used to remove skin lesions by vaporising the tissue. This method is highly effective for seborrhoeic keratoses

Fine Wire Diathermy

Diathermy uses an electrical current passed through a fine wire to remove lesions by cauterising them. The wire is gently touched to the lesion, delivering a mild electrical current that dries out and removes the growth. This treatment is effective for small lesions such as skin tags, milia, and sebaceous hyperplasia.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy involves freezing the lesion with liquid nitrogen, causing the tissue to slough off over time. It is a quick and simple option ideal for smaller lesions such as small seb Ks and skin tags.

How it Works

1.

Initial Consultation

During your initial consultation, your practitioner will review the areas of concern. We will assess the type and size of the lesions and advise which treatment option(s) are the most appropriate for your condition. This appointment is an opportunity for you to
ask questions and learn more about the treatments available. We will explain the expected outcomes, timeline, and aftercare instructions for the procedure. We may recommend a specific skin care treatment plan to help improve these lesions and prevention them developing in the future.

2.

Aftercare

After treatment, proper care is essential to ensure the best possible results. Keep the treated area clean and dry for 48 hours. Apply any ointments or creams as directed, or cover with tape if provided. It is important to protect the treated area from the sun while it heals to prevent pigmentation changes. Depending on the treatment, you may be asked to return for a follow-up consultation to ensure the area is healing properly and to assess if any additional treatments are needed.
