Vbeam

The Vbeam® laser system, developed by Candela Medical, is a renowned pulsed dye laser (PDL) recognised as the gold standard for treating vascular lesions. It effectively addresses a variety of skin conditions, including rosacea, port wine stains, facial and leg veins, acne, and wrinkles. Due to its advanced cooling technology. This process is facilitated by Candela’s Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™), which cools the skin before, during, and after each laser pulse, enhancing comfort and protecting the surrounding tissue.

While many patients notice improvements immediately after treatment, optimal results are often achieved after multiple sessions.

Vbeam treatments are well-tolerated, allowing patients to resume daily activities promptly.

How can Vbeam help?

Rosacea

Vbeam laser is highly effective in treating rosacea, a condition characterised by redness and visible blood vessels on the face. The laser targets blood vessels and reduces redness and inflammation associated with rosacea. The treatment helps to diminish visible blood vessels and improve the overall appearance of the skin, providing relief for patients with this chronic condition. With multiple sessions, many patients experience clearer, more even-toned skin.

Port Wine Stains

Port wine stains are congenital vascular birthmarks that appear as dark red or purple patches on the skin, often on the face. Vbeam’s pulsed dye laser is particularly effective for treating these stains, as it targets the abnormal blood vessels that cause the discoloration. The laser energy is absorbed by the blood vessels, causing them to collapse and gradually fade. Over several treatment sessions, port wine stains can become significantly lighter or completely disappear, improving the skin’s appearance.

Broken Capillaries / Angiomas / Venous Lakes

Vbeam laser is also used to treat broken capillaries, angiomas (small, benign tumors of blood vessels), and venous lakes (blue to purple vascular lesions). The laser specifically targets the blood vessels, causing them to coagulate and disappear. For broken capillaries and angiomas, the laser effectively breaks down the blood vessels and allows the skin to heal with minimal scarring. Venous lakes, which typically appear on the lips or other areas of the skin, are also treated by coagulating the blood vessels, leading to their gradual disappearance over time.

How it Works

1.

Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation, our staff will assess your skin concerns and discuss your medical history, medications and products used. The practitioner will talk you through the laser and whether this is most appropriate treatment for you. They will explain the procedure, expected outcomes, and any potential risks or side effects.

2.

Treatment

VBeam treatments are typically quick, with each session lasting between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure due to Candela’s DCD (dynamic cooling device) which cools the skin during treatment. The number of sessions required varies based on the specific condition being treated and individual response to the laser, however most patients are advised to expect a minimum of three sessions based approximately 6 weeks apart.

3.

Aftercare

Post treatment care is essential to achieve optimal results. Patients are advised to protect their skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen to shield the treated area from sun exposure. It is best to avoid harsh skincare products, including exfoliants and retinoids, for a few days after treatment.

Redness, swelling and bruising are common side effects following VBeam. Elevating your head with an extra pillow during sleep can help to minimise any swelling under the eyes. Ice packs can also be used.

Make up can be applied immediately following treatment.

Maintenance treatment is usually required to manage chronic medical conditions such as rosacea.

Medical professionals are expected to provide balanced, information rather than marketing claims that might mislead consumers. Australian law requires a consultation with a qualified medical professional (such as a doctor or nurse prescriber) before these treatments can be recommended as they may not be the most appropriate option for your concerns. Patients report varied levels of discomfort, depending on individual tolerance, the laser being used and the settings chosen. For most people laser is tolerable. The number varies depending on the laser used, the condition being treated and the settings chosen/tolerated. One session may be required for some issues –such as high-level laser resurfacing, laser assisted PDT, and spot treatments. However, most patients require 3–6 sessions to address their concerns.

Downtime depends on the treatment; some have no downtime, while others may require up to 7 days for recovery. Most lasers have little to no downtime, with you being able to continue with daily activities after treatment. We would usually advise you to avoid the sun/use sun protection, avoid physical activity for 24 hours and not to use active skin care until your skin has settled.

It is administered through microinjections and works by stimulating collagen production, improving skin elasticity, reducing fine lines, and enhancing hydration. The treatment is commonly used for anti-aging, acne scars, and overall skin texture improvement.
